Ripeness Score Definition
The Ripeness Score is Banana Farmer's 0-to-100 momentum composite that combines technical indicators, social velocity, and volume analysis into a single number. It tells you how “ready” a stock or crypto asset is for a near-term price move, updated every 15 minutes across 9,000+ tracked assets.
How It Works
The score blends three signal categories. Technical momentum (RSI, MACD, Bollinger Band position, moving average alignment) makes up the largest weight. Volume analysis (current volume vs. 20-day average, volume trend direction) adds confirmation. Social velocity (rate of mention acceleration across Reddit, news, and financial forums) provides an early-warning layer that often leads price by 12 to 48 hours.
Assets are bucketed into badges based on their score: Rotten (0-25), Green (26-49), Ripening (50-64), Ripe (65-89), and Overripe (90-100). The Ripe zone is where most momentum traders focus. For the full methodology, see the scoring methodology page or the complete Ripeness Score guide.
Example
A mid-cap tech stock has RSI at 61, volume at 1.8x its 20-day average, and social mentions accelerating 3x over the past 24 hours. The Ripeness Score calculates to 72, placing it in the “Ripe” zone. It appears on the leaderboard with a yellow Ripe badge. Three days later, the stock gaps up 8% on an analyst upgrade that the social data had been hinting at.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a good Ripeness Score?
Scores between 65 and 85 (the "Ripe" zone) are the sweet spot for momentum traders. This range means technicals, volume, and social sentiment are converging but the move hasn't fully played out. Scores above 90 ("Overripe") suggest the stock is extended. Scores below 40 indicate little actionable momentum. The system scores all 9,287 tracked assets every 15 minutes.
How often does the Ripeness Score update?
Every 15 minutes during market hours. Each refresh pulls fresh price data, recalculates technical indicators (RSI, MACD, Bollinger Bands), measures volume relative to the 20-day average, and checks social mention velocity. The score can change significantly within a single trading session if a catalyst hits or volume surges unexpectedly.
Is the Ripeness Score a buy signal?
No. It's a momentum composite, not a trade recommendation. A high score means momentum indicators are converging, which historically correlates with near-term price movement. But correlation isn't causation, and plenty of high-scoring stocks don't follow through. Use it as one input alongside your own analysis, risk management, and position sizing rules. Not financial advice.
